The Enneagram & Three Divine Laws
The Necessity of Self-Observation
It's exceptionally important to learn this one skill: self-observation.
This is the ability to flip from being a victim of your mindset to watching it, assessing it, and being able to say "that's unhelpful, what other perspective is more useful?"
This is the simple yet insanely powerful skill of learning how not to believe everything you think.
It's practiced with a pause. By separating one's identity from automatically produced experience, to an objective witnessing of your experience.
Once done, a gap is created.
Your identity reconnects with a ground that is less conditioned, more stable, and actually present.
It's important then to identify your highest values, and serve them.
You can bet waves of fear, and shame, and anger will crash on to you all day trying to pull you back into your automatically produced experience (i.e. your past).
But you can via fearlessly pausing, slowing down, and relaxing in to the gap between your automatic experience and your self-observation, return to presence with yourself, a witnessing of yourself.
Almost every person is capable of this. And at a certain point, it is the most important skill to learn to achieve the life you truly desire.
